Thank you for your support for the past 30 years.

The 1st Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis was held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in December 1984. It is a great honor to have served as a tournament director since then. In those days, there were many problems to solve, because “Women’s tennis” was not a common sport in Japan.

Appearance of Manuela Maleeva who is the 1st champion of this tournament and world top players including Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova and Martina Hingis, provided opportunities for spectators, sponsors and media to start to take an interest in this tournament. Also, many Japanese players have made their step forward to the world by being a part of this tournament. Kimiko Date-Krumm is the only Japanese champion and Ai Sugiyama has consecutive main draw games record for 17 years in row.

It is great privilege to have done my part to the best of my limited ability in order to make “Women’s tennis = Toray PPO tennis” become an asset to sports and culture in Japan.
I would like to express my deep gratitude to Toray Industries, Inc. for their continuing support for 30 years.

Thanks to everyone, Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2013 was very successful.
1,157,287 visitors and 2,400 players in total have participated in this tournament over the last 30 years.

I retire from the position of the tournament director at the end of the 30th tournament.

Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis will be held in Japan as well as from 2014 on. I hope you will continue to favor the tournament with your support.
